300 Series stainless steels are classified as austenitic, and are hardenable only by cold working methods. These grades of stainless have chromium (approx. 18 to 30%) and nickel (approx. 6 to 20%) as their major alloying additions. Type 304 is the most widely used alloy of all stainless steels. 300 Series Stainless steel alloys resist corrosion, maintain their strength at high temperatures and are easy to maintain.
The 300 series consist ofaustenitic chromium-nickel alloys. Austentic containsa maximum of 0.15% carbon and a minimum of 16% chromium, and nickel is the important alloying element. This creates superior corrosion resistance andease of fabrication. Austentic stainless steel has a wide range of mechanical properties and can withstand a wide range of temperatures.Austenitic grades are the most commonly used stainless steels, and are not hardenable by heat treatment.
Stainless steel alloys are used predominantly in:

The 200 series is a class of austenitic(highly corrosion-resistant)stainless steels that are characterized by havinglow nickel content. These are also referred to as chrome-manganese (CrMn) stainless steel.
Austenitic steels, which includes both the 200 and 300 series stainless steels, are defined by their face-centered cubic structure. That is, the crystal structure has one atom at each corner of the cube and one in the middle of each face.
Nickel is the most commonly used element to produce this crystal structure, but a post-World War II nickel shortageled to the substitution of nitrogen for nickel in the production of some austeniti ccorrosion-resistant steels. The 200 series of stainless steels was born.
While nitrogen alloyed in steel will also form a face-centered cubic structure, it results in harmful chromium nitrides and increases gas porosity. The addition of manganese allows more nitrogen to be safely added, but nickel cannot be completely removed from the alloy. The 200 series stainless steels are, consequently, characterized by their nitrogen and manganese content.
Production and demand for low-nickel stainless steels surged in the 1980s as nickel prices soared and, again, efforts were made to reduce use of the metal.
This led to the development of a huge production increase in India. Asia is now a major source for, and consumer of, this family of steels.
Applications for 200 Series Stainless SteelsDue to its lower corrosion resistance, the range of applications for 200 series stainless steels is narrower than 300 series steels. It is not recommended for use in chemical environmentsbut has found its way into many household items.
Some applications for 200 series stainless steel include:

Stainless Steel Sheet 310
General
310 is an austenitic heat resisting alloy with excellent resistance to oxidation under mildly cyclic conditions to 2100°F. Rapid thermal cycling increases the rate of metal wastage somewhat by spalling of the protective oxide scale.
The oxidation resistance of 310 is significantly better than that of 309. Because of its high chromium and medium nickel contents 310 has good resistance to hot corrosion in a variety of environments. 310 has useful resistance to high temperature environments containing moderate amounts of sulfur. However, sufficiently high concentrations of sulfur may dictate the use of materials free of nickel. 310 is widely used in moderately carburizing atmospheres such as encountered in petrochemical environments. 310 does not posses sufficient resistance to carbon and nitrogen absorption for service in the highly carburizing atmospheres of industrial heat treating furnaces. 330 or 333 are more suited to this latter environment.
The chromium content of 310 provides resistance to aqueous corrosion under oxidizing conditions. 310 is susceptible to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking but is superior in this respect to the lower alloy stainless 304 and 316. 310 has fair resistance to polythionic acid attack. Resistance to intergranular attack of material intended for service in the 850 to 1000°F range may be improved by thermal stabilization at 1500-1650°F for four hours.

Stainless Steel Sheet 316L
316/316L stainless steel has a high resistance to many chemical corrodents and marine atmospheres. 316/316L stainless steels are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevices than conventional austenitic stainless steels. 316/316L stainless steels also offer higher creep, stress-to-rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. 316/316L are also well suited for fabricated or formed applications.

We Swagat Steel And Alloys offer robust performance Stainless Steel 904 L Sheets that are manufactured using extreme quality raw material. We Swagat Steel And Alloys perform quality and performance measure inspection of these Stainless Steel 904 L Sheets under various parameters in order to get smooth flow of operation. We also engaged in customizations of these Stainless Steel 904 L Sheets as per the client’s specification.
Background
904L is a non-stabilised low carbon high alloy austenitic stainless steel. The addition of copper to this grade gives it greatly improved resistance to strong reducing acids, particularly sulphuric acid. It is also highly resistant to chloride attack - both pitting / crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
This grade is non-magnetic in all conditions and has excellent weldability and formability. The austenitic structure also gives this grade excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures.
904L does have very substantial contents of the high cost ingredients nickel and molybdenum. Many of the applications in which this grade has previously performed well can now be fulfilled at lower cost by duplex stainless steel 2205 (S31803 or S32205), so it is used less commonly than in the past.
